Most likely, the Egyptian government is trying to block Facebook Messenger on mobile internet.
Over the past two days, the message “Wating for network” has appeared on the Messenger application on Android and the message “messenger is currently unavailable” on the web browsers on the computer. These messages do not appear if you are using DSL.
I just found https://www.messenger.com completely blocked on Vodafone. The website remained blocked for about an hour and then returned to normal work.
I found that Facebook Messenger on Android connects to four IPs while working:
157.240.195.17
157.240.195.15
157.240.3.29
31.13.71.7
Facebook actually owns the IPs ranges:
157.240.195.0/24
157.240.3.0/24
31.13.71.0/24
Some of IP addresses listed are blocked due to DNS Tampering and this means – most likely – that there is a DPI and others are abnormally slow.
This means that the government may be trying to block Messenger or at least try to slow down access to it (throttling).
I also noticed that this blocking and throttling are not continuous, sometimes Messenger works normally and sometimes not.
